I was right. Yesterday never dies in some places. History repeats itself and ideas go through endless cycles of rebirth. In an interview Parviz Meshkatian (پرویز مشکاتیان) mentions the 1980s, the once glorious name of the Alborz mountains, a sign and the poem below:
Nothing has changed except the year. We are in 2007, but the rules of 1980s still apply.

Yesterday, December 05 2005 (14 of Azar), was Bahram’s birthday. We (10 of his friends) went to his house and had dinner together. At around 09:30 PM we left for his tomb. A tombstone is still missing, but flowers cover his tomb. A simple black sign with white ink on it reads “Bahram Jafari” below which is written “21 5 4″.

Our friend Bahram Jafari has left us. He died on November 25 2005, after slipping off a glacier on the south face of Damavand.

Today’s topic image is that of the climber because we went to Beach City Rocks climbing gym. We had a 5 hours day today and since it was Sunday it was worth to take a look at the BCR. I had asked Amitis yesterday if she would want to go climbing. She wanted. On Sundays the BCR is mostly frequented by children. Since Amitis still wanted to go climbing we went there right away.

I finally did it! I climbed Damavand. It was a spontaneous project or climb. Bahram called me and told me that over the weekend they would go to Damavand and that I should consider going with them. I thought it was a nice chance and did so. On Thursday, 29.08.2004, we met at 06:00 o’clock in Meydoone Fatemi and left at around 06:30 for Damavand. We were 17 people. Bahram could unfortunately not come with us as he had to go to Shirpala. He came to Bargahe Sewom on Friday, as we were descending.

Today I received a message from Bahram. It reads as follows:
Quote:

salam
divare nasb shode, key miay ba amitis tamrin kony?
یه دیواره، یه دیواره، یه دیواره که پشتش شیرپلا داره…..
Amitis would love it.

I went hiking yesterday. I went to Sange Siyah only and then returned. It was a very nice day and I should have gone to Tochal itself. But I wanted to go to Tochal for Amitis’s movie and I didn’t have my Amitis flag with me, so I didn’t go.
I was planning to go today but I got involved with some other stuff. So I intend to go to Tochal on Thursday and to stay overnight. I will stay in the shelter. I can then finish the moon movie for Amitis and send it to her once I am in Germany.

Yesterday we (Bahram and his friend Zahra) set out for the Kholeno peak (خلنو); in central Alborz. With 4375 meters Kholeno is the second highest peak after Damavand in the central part of Alborz. There are actually three Kholeno peaks: Borje Kholeno (برج خلنو), Small Kholeno (خلنوی کوچک) and Big Kholeno (خلنوی بزرگ).
What we didn’t know, was that it would be a full winter ascend. We expected some snow but nothing like what we encountered. At one point we could measure up to 147 cm of snow. But we were equiped well enough to make it a safe ascend.

Last Wednesday I met Aghaghiya and her husband James. I had heard that they are hikers - I knew they are very good travellers - and so I invited them to go hiking with me on Friday. They accepted happily and I picked them up today morning at 04:45 and set out for Shirpala via the Darband route.

I met Mohsen and family yesterday at my uncle’s house. It was like a good-bye meeting. They are moving to Canada. Many people were coming and going, just how it is in Iran. We talked a lot and had fun. As we were chatting our way through different subjects, he suggested that we help Bahram to make a climbing wall in Shirpala. In the summer a climbing wall in the winter an ice climbing wall. This is more than perfect. He wants to make a suggestion to Laico to do it.
But after I went home I decided to do it differently. I will help sponsoring the wall, dedicate it to my daughter and call it the “Amitis wall” or دیوارهی آمیتیس in Farsi.
